Court Appointed Special Advocates

Who Can Become a CASA


An individual may become a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) who

  • Is at least 21 years of age
  • Is able to commit a minimum of 24 months to the program and to the child(ren)
  • Successfully completes an application and screening process
  • Demonstrates the capability to adequately advocate for a child or children
  • Has no criminal record or history with a child protective service (CPS) organization
    which impairs his or her ability to be appointed as a CASA
  • Successfully completes 30 hours of required pre-service training
  • Is sworn-in by a Benton County Judge
Screening Procedures

  • Review and evaluation of the written application
  • Written reference checks (3)
  • Criminal history check
  • Pre-service interview
  • Training (the pre-service training also serves as a screening process)
  • Post-Training interview
